I was going to...

I've decided that I can't really be all that picky when it comes to what past poems I am willing to share. So, from here on out, you will get all of it. Okay, not all of it. But definitely a lot of it. The good, the depressing, the sappy, the weird.

I don't even remember the context or background of this poem. Many of the things I have written in the past were the result of an assignment in my Creative Writing class. A lot of things come to me because of an assigned prompt, or when I ask someone to just say a random word. However, I think some of this may have stemmed from a little experience, and the class prompt gave me the opportunity to put it out in this form.

I was going to...
By: Melissa Blume

I was going to tell you a secret.
Something I have never told
another soul.
A story that has haunted my dreams
and needed to be let out.
I was finally ready to set it free;
to tell someone I trusted.
Someone like you.
But then I heard
your fading footsteps.

How many times do we find ourselves in this position? When we need to take a load off, to let go of something we've been holding on to for ages, when we're finally ready to release the deep down feelings out into the open, and we find that those we need to share these things don't want to listen, can't listen, or aren't ready to listen. How much pain do each of us hold inside? It's toxic. And it needs to be let out. Please, let it out. Give yourself the gift of healing.

How many times do we find ourselves the person walking away, not realizing that we need to turn around because that is where we are most needed? It happens to all of us. I beg of you, please listen. Never turn down an opportunity to listen.
