Never Goodbye

I haven't posted a new poem in a long time. That's because I haven't been writing, and I feel bad for it. Writing is my way of expressing myself, especially during a difficult time. I always hope that my writings will touch the hearts of others who are looking for words they don't know how to say. So much has happened since my last post, and I haven't written a single word. No wonder I feel like I'm stuck in a bottle.

However, a few times during these past few weeks, I've been getting impressions that I need to write again. I'm sure it was mostly because I haven't written in a long time, but there was more to it. And now I know why.

Last night, my sweet, wonderfully stubborn Grandpa Blume passed away. I was able to have a few moments with him by myself, just hours before he passed. I sat, and I just talked. I talked about my day, about my preparations for my upcoming mission... I told him I've been through plenty of hard things in my life, what's one more? I was alluding to my mission, but in my mind I was thinking about losing another loved one. After awhile, I got up, kissed him on the forehead, and said, "See you later, Grandpa".

Never Goodbye
By: Melissa Blume

It's never goodbye.
Because death
is nothing
but a pathway
to an exquisite garden.
A closed door
to a magnificent ballroom.
A curtain covering
a sunny day.

Someday,
I'll make it
to that garden.
That door will open,
the curtain
will be pulled back.

I will smell
those fragrant blossoms,
the sunshine
will come in,
and I will see
your face again.
Never goodbye.
Just, see you later.

Yes, I am sad. I miss my grandpa. It's so hard losing someone you love. But I am content. He is no longer in any pain. He's simply gone on to a better place where he waits for our turn to come.

See you later, Grandpa.
